This time in isolation has given me a moment to reflect on the art I want to create. Without putting too much pressure on myself, I’ve been trying to stay active by creating every day and it’s been a rewarding challenge. I’ve been exploring various media that excite me and I’ve rediscovered a love for embroidery and thread. I had never thought about collage as a medium I could explore until now.

 

This series is my first attempt at collaging as part of work for university and I really enjoyed creating it. My collages explore the thoughts and emotions that I have experienced during this lockdown. They address the lack of intimacy we’ve been experiencing, the claustrophobia of isolation, the obsession with sanitizing and flattening the curve, and the anxiety surrounding vaccines, public transport and crowded places.
