LAY, LADY, LADY

Words & Photographs by Agustina Zabala

I write what I can't touch and then I disguise it as something else: that's what poetry means to me

From A Wounded Animal

Part I: I’d Set Fires To...

Somedays I am a tree falling in the forest when no one is listening.

Somedays I’m sure I could be a savior if I could just get out of this bed.

Today I woke up and my tulip opened before me with a grace only worthy of nature. If I wanted I could cut it with a pair of scissors or with my own hands, but I'm not interested in having that kind of power.

I write what I can't touch and then I disguise it as something else.

That's what poetry means to me.

Part II: How Do You Picture Yourself In 10 Years?

Today I locked myself in the bathroom to smoke. I looked at the stars

through a hole in the ceiling for a while and then I threw the ashes in

the sink. At that exact moment I thought "I will find myself in this same

situation so many times in my life..." and I laughed.

Part III: THIESE ARE TEXTS I SHOULD’VE SENT BUT I DIDN’T GET THE CHANCE TO HAVE THE LAST WORD, SO...

WHEN WE KISSED I WAS THINKING OF SOMEONE ELSE I

THINK YOU’D MAKE A BETTER DOOR THAN A WINDOW

JUST SO YOU KNOW

I FELL ASLEEP WATCHING CASABLANCA AND YOU’RE

NOT THE GOOD GUY YOU THINK YOU ARE

Part IV: A Moment Of Silence

Last night a black hole opened in the middle of my head and Bob Dylan secretly said to me: Be careful with the words, Darling... Humans we are wounded animals, who only know how to hurt.

To those whose miserable souls can ruin our lives... To those who brag about

electric cars and satellites... To those who would never look at us... THEY ARE

THE ONES WHO DESERVE ALL THE HAZE IN THIS WORLD.

Part V: Lay, Lady, Lay

I woke up in a gray clinic. The window faced the

wall of a gray building. I’m being discharged

today.

My knuckles are now healing, and my

cat is waiting for me at home. I don’t

want to hurt anymore.

I can’t wait to lay on the grass and look at the clouds passing by swiftly... I

know Bob would be proud if he knew that.
