This is a playlist for those of you hoping to learn more about punk, but it also includes artists that influenced punk music, like David Bowie, Blondie, Roxy Music and Elvis. I've recently become obsessed with the late 70s, pouring over photocopy-friendly zines of the era, infatuated by the grainy texture and knock-out black and white simplicity of band posters and gig flyers from that time. As a collage artist, I've always loved DIY culture and zine-making, but I'd never deep-dived into punk music, art or fashion until recently, and now I can't stop. I feel like my taste in everything is changing. A few weeks ago I read the Sex Pistols guitartist's autobiography, "Lonely Boy", and picked up on the names of tons of bands I'd never heard of and was also inpsired to re-listen to artists that I did know, though not very well, as it turns out. This is a compilation of some of the songs I discovered and came to love, and I hope this playlist serves as a starting point for your own punk journey.
